Kastamonu University has taken an essential step towards digitalization with the University Information Management System (UIMS) and signed an environmentally friendly transformation. In line with the work carried out by the ÜBYS and E-Campus Unit of the Department of Information Technologies, the number of documents circulating electronically as of January 1, 2021, continues to increase rapidly.

Since 2021, many transactions, such as documents produced through ÜBYS, student certificates, transcripts, additional course load forms, academic incentive application documents, applications received from the online application system, and support request systems, have started to be carried out electronically. With this digitalization, 3,701,156 documents were circulated electronically in 2021. This prevented 445 trees from being cut down, 2,220 tons of water consumed, 125 tons of carbon dioxide gas emitted, and 8.88 tons of waste from harming the environment.

In 2022, these figures increased even more. Four million five hundred sixty-four thousand three hundred forty documents were circulated electronically, preventing 549 trees from being cut down. In addition, 2,738 tons of water was consumed, 155 tons of carbon dioxide gas was emitted, and 10.95 tons of waste was prevented from harming the environment.

By 2023, 5,097,840 documents were circulated electronically. This prevented 614 trees from being cut down, 3,058 tons of water from being consumed, 173 tons of carbon dioxide gas from being emitted, and 12.23 tons of waste from harming the environment.
In 2024, 5,749,248 documents were circulated electronically. In this way, 692 trees were prevented from being cut down, 3,449 tons of water was prevented from being consumed, 195 tons of carbon dioxide gas was prevented from being released into the environment, and 13.80 tons of waste was prevented from harming the environment.
Our university continues to grow its Virtual Forest with the trees it saves every year. Starting with 445 trees in 2021, this virtual forest will increase its environmental contribution by reaching 994 trees in 2022, 1,608 trees in 2023, and 2,302 trees in 2024.

Kastamonu University, known for its strong emphasis on scientific research and development, continues to stand out with its patent and design applications among the key outputs of its R&D activities. Increasing its applications in the field of industrial property, the university filed a total of 131 applications between 2020 and 2024.

Over 100 Industrial Property Applications from Our University

Between 2011 and 2019, 22 patent and utility model applications were filed under the ownership of Kastamonu University. However, in 2020-2024, this number significantly increased, reaching 97 applications for patents, utility models, and PCT applications.

• 2020: 6 patents and one utility model application

• 2021: 9 patents, two utility models, and 5 PCT applications

• 2022: 14 patents, six utility models, and 2 PCT applications

• 2023: 20 patents, three utility models, and 1 PCT application

• 2024: 20 patents, four utility models, and 4 PCT applications, totaling 28 applications in a single year

The university has also made significant progress in industrial design, with three applications in 2021, 8 in 2022, 8 in 2023, and 15 in 2024, bringing the total number of design applications to 34 in the last four years.

Increasing Number of Registrations

The university's applications in industrial property continue to receive approvals.

• Patents and Utility Models: 3 registrations in 2022, 5 in 2023, and 11 in 2024, totaling 19 registrations in the last three years.

• Since the patent registration process takes an average of 3-4 years, the number of approved applications is expected to increase significantly in the coming years.

• Industrial Design: 3 designs were registered in 2022, 10 in 2023, and 5 in 2024, totaling 18 registered designs. An additional 15 designs are expected to be registered in the first half of 2025.

Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, expressed his gratitude to all academic and administrative staff who contributed to this remarkable progress achieved by the university.

He emphasized the importance of patent awareness and technological development in universities. He also thanked the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office for its continuous support in fostering patent awareness and promoting intellectual and industrial property rights in Turkey.

Additionally, our Rector thanked the President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, and YÖK members for their commitment to encouraging and supporting scientific research, R&D, and patent activities in universities.

Kastamonu University continues to shape the future with its projects in various fields, such as science and technology, education, health, and international cooperation. In 2024, 125 projects of our University were entitled to be supported within the scope of many support programs such as TÜBİTAK, TÜSEB, Erasmus+, Horizon Europe, KUZKA, and European Union funds.

TUBITAK supported projects that contribute to our university's scientific studies, including 1001, 1002-A, 2218, 2219, 3005, 3501, 4004, 4008, 2223-B and 2237 programs. In addition, one project was supported by the North Anatolian Development Agency (KUZKA) under the technical support program. Five projects were accepted by the Presidency of Health Institutes of Turkey (TÜSEB) in the health field.

Our University, which continues its activities in the international arena, has been involved in 2 multi-partner projects within the scope of the Horizon Europe program supported by the European Union. In addition, 4 European Union projects in different fields were implemented under the leadership of our University. Within the framework of the European Solidarity Program (ESC), one sports field project was entitled to be supported.

Our University, which also works on protecting the local ecosystem, aims to produce solutions for water pollution in different districts with two projects supported by the 10th Regional Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks.
In addition, 24 specialization projects are carried out to strengthen the specialization areas of our University, while 41 Scientific Research Projects (BAP) continue to contribute to academic studies.

Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, in his evaluation of the project achievements of our University, emphasized that the support given to scientific research is increasing day by day and stated that our University contributes to the development of our country in the field of science and technology with the projects carried out in different disciplines. Our Rector congratulated our academicians and researchers and thanked TÜBİTAK, TÜSEB, the European Union, and other organizations for their support.

Our university opens the  doors to candidate students with the promotion days , to be held between 31 July - 4 August 2023. Our university will host candidate university students in promotion days activity that will be held in the Central Library of our university.

During the Promotion Days  events  will  be held between 09:00 - 17:00 in the foyer area of the Central Library of our university, our academicians and students will answer the questions of the candidate students about their departments and programs.

Our university will also organize online meetings for candidate students who will participate from other cities. Thanks to these meetings, information will be shared that can be accessed remotely, and comprehensive information will be provided about the topics that prospective students are curious about.

Within the scope of the event, guidance service will also be provided to university candidate students in choosing the right departments according to their scores. In this way, candidate students will be helped to choose the most suitable departments in line with their interests and abilities.
