The academic staff of our university achieved significant successes within the scope of the 2237-A Scientific Education Activities Support Program "Earthquake Special Call" carried out by the TÜBİTAK Scientist Support Programs Presidency (BİDEB).
Five projects of our five academic staff were accepted within the scope of TÜBİTAK 2237-A Scientific Education Activities. Our academicians were entitled to receive support from TUBITAK with their projects on wood, earthquake, green building, earthquake education, disaster management and sustainable environment.
The First project, titled "Wooden Structures and Earthquake" conducted by Assist. Prof. Dr. Emre Birinci from the Faculty of Forestry, is aimed to increase knowledge on the earthquake resistance of wooden structures, horizontal architectural understanding, design and construction of wooden structures on the basis of earthquake awareness and to increase the demand for wooden structures.
In the project named "Wooden Structures, Earthquake and Sustainability", which is led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahadır Çağrı Bayram, faculty member of the Faculty of Forestry, the advantages and contributions of wood and wooden structures in terms of economic, ecological and social qualities will be examined with a sustainability approach.
The Third project titled "Earthquake and Green Structures", implemented by Assoc Prof. Dr. Alperen Kaymakcı, a faculty member of the Faculty of Forestry, Department of Forest Industrial Engineering, addresses the advantage and the contribution of wood use in green buildings to global climate change and sustainable forestry practices.
The project titled "Lessons Learned from the 6th of February, 2023 Kahramanmaraş Earthquake and Our Country's State of Readiness for New Earthquakes" will be led by Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Civil Engineering faculty member Prof. Dr. Mahmut Bilgehan and include studies on why the buildings suffered heavy damage in the earthquake, the mistakes made in the selection of the ground and the design and manufacture of the structural elements.
The last project named "Readiness for Disasters from Sociological and Psychological Perspectives Specific to the Earthquake Reality" conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erol Tekin, faculty member of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of International Trade and Logistics, topics such as sociological perspective on disasters, the role of civil initiatives in reducing disaster risks, mobile communication in disasters and fight with disinformation, humanitarian aid logistics and the importance of psychology in reducing disaster damages will be discussed.
In all projects supported by TÜBİTAK, theoretical and practical training will be provided to academic staff and students who will be selected in line with the determined criteria.
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal expressed his pride for the success of our academic staff within the framework of TÜBİTAK 2237-A Programme. He emphasized that they will support every project that will minimize the destructive effects of the earthquake for our country, which is in the earthquake zone.
Our Rector stated that all kinds of scientific studies on earthquakes will be of great benefit to the academic community and stated that the studies will continue in order to make more progress in the science world and technology.
