Established in the 2023-2024 academic year within Kastamonu University, the Social Responsibility Projects Office (Social Office) continues to draw attention with its initiatives aimed at different segments of society. Founded to contribute to solving social issues, the office has released its 2024 Activity Report.
In 2024, the Social Office developed projects addressing the needs of a diverse target audience, including children, young people, university students, individuals with special needs, adults, older people, women, foreign nationals, disaster victims, and animals. One hundred thirty-nine social responsibility projects were carried out in education, sports, environment, health, culture, and arts, with 71 projects led by students and 68 by academics. Conducted in Kastamonu city center and its districts, these projects aimed to create social benefits by focusing on sustainable cities and communities, reducing social inequalities, climate action, and responsible production and consumption.
The projects were implemented with the participation of 53 stakeholders, including municipalities, the Provincial Directorate of National Education, the Provincial Directorate of Health, the Provincial Directorate of AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management), the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports, the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services, the Regional Directorate of Forestry, women’s cooperatives, foundations, associations, federations, and the private sector.
Led by our university’s students and academics, these projects have reached thousands of people, leaving a lasting impact on society. Covering a wide range of areas from education to health and environmental awareness to cultural activities, the social responsibility projects extended beyond Kastamonu, contributing to solving social issues in surrounding regions.
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, emphasized that the university acts with academic excellence and a strong sense of social responsibility. He stated:
"Our social responsibility projects demonstrate the strong ties between our university and the community. We aim to cultivate students and academics as individuals who contribute to society beyond academic work. These projects enhance our students’ social awareness and strengthen their interactions with the local community. In 2025, we will continue to expand these initiatives, reaching all segments of society."
The Social Office is crucial in strengthening the university’s interaction with the city and enhancing social solidarity. Aiming to develop sustainable projects at local and national levels, the Social Office contributes to sustainable development by raising social responsibility awareness among individuals.
In 2025, the Social Office plans to expand its social impact with innovative and solution-oriented projects, utilizing the university’s knowledge and human resources effectively to undertake more local and national projects.
