Hosted by Kastamonu University, the conference titled “Our Key Role in Healthy Life,” which is the project of the Livestock and Wildlife Community supported by the University Student Communities Cooperation and Support Program (ÜNİDES) carried out by the General Directorate of Youth Services, was held on 25-26 February 2025.

Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Atalan, representativestutions and organizations, academics, of public insti and students attended the event. The conference was held with the intense participation of health professionals and students.

The event started on February 25 with sessions at İhsangazi Municipality Wedding Hall and Devrekani TOBB Vocational School. On February 26, it continued at Sezai Karakoç Hall of the Central Library of our University.

In his opening speech, İhsangazi Vocational School (Vocational School) Director Assoc. Prof. Osman Topacoğlu emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary studies for a healthy life and drew attention to the role of such organizations in creating scientific awareness. Youth Services Director Efgan Dağlı stated that young people should be aware of health and sustainability issues and that such activities will continue to increase within the scope of the UNIDES program.

The Project Coordinator and İhsangazi Vocational School Veterinary Medicine Department Lecturer organized the conference. Prof. Dr. The conference was moderated by Abdullah Şimşek. Academicians and health professionals who are experts in their fields made essential presentations to the participants.
Prof. Dr. Zafer Gönülalan from Erciyes University (ERU) Faculty of Veterinary Medicine drew attention to sustainability in veterinary medicine practices and stated that protecting animal health also means protecting human health and the environment. Emphasizing that environmental factors should be considered in modern veterinary practices, Gönülalan shared the importance of sustainable approaches in veterinary medicine with the participants.

Prof. Dr. Nurhan Ertaş Onmaz from ERU Faculty of Veterinary Medicine stated that food safety is one of the most critical elements for a healthy life and explained how hygiene and quality standards should be maintained in the processes that food goes through from the production stage until it reaches the consumer. Onmaz conveyed the measures to prevent foodborne diseases and emphasized the importance of safe food consumption in terms of individual and social health.

Kastamonu University İhsangazi Vocational School Deputy Director and Department of Veterinary Medicine Dr. Lecturer. Prof. Gülay Giray discussed the adverse effects of microfungal contamination in barns, an essential problem in the livestock sector, on both animal and human health. Giray pointed out that veterinarians and farmers should especially be aware of this issue and share with the participants the risks caused by fungal contamination in animal husbandry and the measures that can be taken in light of the research conducted.

Uzm. Dr. Çağdaş Derdiyok, in his presentation on “Antimicrobial Resistance and Public Health from the Concept of One Medicine, One Health,” stated that antimicrobial resistance, which is a critical problem threatening public health, is increasing and that this is a situation that can be prevented with proper use. Derdiyok emphasized that to lead a healthy life, factors such as hygiene and nutrition, as well as conscious drug use and raising awareness, are critical. Derdiyok made essential suggestions on the role of society in the fight against antimicrobial resistance and emphasized the need for individuals to take conscious steps for a healthy life.

At the end of the event, essential contributions to the scientific basis of healthy living were emphasized. It was stated that cooperation will continue for the sustainability of such studies. Project Coordinator and Conference Moderator Lect. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Şimşek thanked all the participants who contributed to the organization.
