Kastamonu University Faculty of Medicine and Kastamonu Training and Research Hospital (KEAH) added a new one to its successful surgical operations. 63-year-old Aliye Çetin regained her health with the replicate procedure performed by the Faculty of Medicine Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology Dr. Faculty Member Recep Taşkın for the first time in Kastamonu with the closed method.
Aliye Çetin, who lost her balance while collecting firewood, fell and dislocated her right shoulder, applied to KEAH Emergency Service with severe pain and limitation of movement due to rupture of tendons. As a result of the follow-up examinations of the patient, whose shoulder was put back in place with emergency intervention, it was determined that a tear (Bankart lesion) occurred in the joint capsule and labrum in the anterior part of the shoulder. At the same time, when it was determined that there was additional damage due to bone collapse, it was decided that surgical intervention was necessary to ensure the patient's shoulder stability and prevent recurrent dislocations in the future.

Dr. Assist. Prof. Dr. Recep Taşkın gave the following information about the closed (arthroscopic) shoulder surgery performed on the patient:

"Our patient Aliye Çetin, 63 years old, lost her balance while collecting firewood and fell and applied to the emergency room with severe pain and limitation of movement in her right shoulder. However, as a result of further examinations in the follow-up, we determined that the shoulder not only experienced a temporary displacement in the joint but also serious damage to soft tissue and bone structures. As a result of MRI imaging and other examinations, we determined that a tear occurred in the joint capsule and labrum in the anterior part of the shoulder (Bankart lesion). In the treatment of such multiple injuries, surgical intervention was required to ensure shoulder stability and prevent recurrent dislocations in the future. We planned a closed (arthroscopic) shoulder surgery for our patient. We repaired the damage to both the soft tissue and bone structures of the shoulder with an operation lasting approximately one and a half hours under general anesthesia. In this context, we applied a replicate procedure."

Stating that the patient's pain was taken under control after the surgery and the rehabilitation process was started, Dr. Taşkın explained the details of the process as follows:

"There were no complications after surgery. After the surgery, our patient was recommended to use a sling that supported his shoulder for three weeks and started the rehabilitation process with controlled movements. A physiotherapy program was planned so she could quickly return to her daily life. Our patient successfully completed all controls and was discharged after regaining his health."
Prof. Dr. Taşkın emphasized that this successful operation performed with the closed method is a first in Kastamonu and stated that it would set an important example for similar cases.
