Kastamonu University, a specialized university of forestry and nature tourism, organized a sapling planting event with participation from academic and administrative staff to increase sustainable environmental awareness and contribute to the fight against global climate change.
The event, which was held under the coordination of the Personnel Department, under the leadership of the Faculty of Forestry and with the support of the Kastamonu Regional Directorate of Forestry, was held on 6 November 2024 in the area opposite the Faculty of Health Sciences in Kuzeykent Campus.
Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Ömer Küçük and Prof. Dr. Mehmet Atalan, and Secretary General Dr. İbrahim Demirbaş, as well as academic and administrative staff, attended the event.
Prof. Dr. Ömer Küçük, who made the opening speech of the event, drew attention to the effects of global climate change and emphasized the importance of afforestation activities carried out at the university. Prof. Dr. Küçük said, ‘Such events are of great importance in contributing to the fight against climate change and our “Resilient Campus to Climate Change” project. The support of our academic and administrative staff for these activities reflects our commitment to the environment and our determination for a sustainable future.’
In the event, Faculty of Forestry Faculty Lecturer Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esra Nurten Yer Çelik gave information about sapling planting and guided the participants on the planting process and correct techniques. After the speeches, 100 saplings were planted by our academic and administrative staff.
