The panel titled “The Republic at the beginning of the Second Century” organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of our University was held on 25 October 2024 at Hoca Ahmet Yesevi Cultural Center.‘The Republic at the Beginning of the Second Century’ Panel was Held at Our University The panel titled “The Republic at the beginning of the Second Century” organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of our University was held on 25 October 2024 at Hoca Ahmet Yesevi Cultural Center.
Deputy Governor of Kastamonu Hakan Kubalı and Deputy Mayor of Kastamonu Hasan Fehmi Taş, Dean of the Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kaçar, and many academicians and students attended the panel. In the panel, the effects and importance of the Republic in the context of history, culture, and politics were evaluated from a broad perspective.
Delivering the opening speech of the panel, the Dean of the Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kaçar emphasized the importance of the effects of the Republic on our society in the historical process. Prof. Dr. Kaçar reminded the development opportunities provided by the Republic, especially in the fields of education, culture, and science, as one of the basic elements that shape the structure of society, and stated that these values should be protected.
The panel was moderated by Prof. Dr. Şeref Demir, Head of the Department of History. Prof. Demir informed the panelists and participants about the social transformations in the first years of the Republic.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülten Küçükbasmacı examined the effects of the Republic on folk culture in her presentation, ‘The Republic and Turkish Folklore’. Küçükbasmacı expressed the Republic's efforts to revive and popularise folk culture and its achievements in this field and described the Republican period as an important period in terms of folklore.
In her presentation titled ‘Atatürk and Archaeology’, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rabia Aktaş explained the importance Atatürk attached to archaeology and the change in the Republic's perspective on cultural heritage. Aktaş, by giving examples of Atatürk's interest in archaeological excavations and research, emphasized the contributions of these studies to Turkey's historical and cultural accumulation.
Finally, Prof. Dr. Ercan Çelebi shared with the participants the effects of the proclamation of the Republic on the people of Kastamonu and the enthusiasm of the first celebrations of the Republic with his speech titled ‘First Republic Day Celebrations in Kastamonu’. Çelebi unearthed the traces of the celebrations in Kastamonu accompanied by historical documents and photographs of that period.
The panel ended after the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the panelists.
