The project titled ‘Laurel Value Chain Analysis’, prepared under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Orhan Kandemir was approved by the Northern Anatolia Development Agency (KUZKA) and was entitled to receive a budget support of 300,000 TL.
The project, which is supported within the scope of KUZKA's ‘Technical Support Programme for Increasing Quality and Quantity in Wood and Forest Products Production in 2024’, aims to increase the added value of the laurel potential of approximately 15 thousand hectares within the borders of Kastamonu Regional Directorate of Forestry. A comprehensive value chain analysis will be carried out to make laurel collecting, which is an important source of income, more efficient and sustainable, especially in forest villages in the coastal districts of Kastamonu.
With the project, it will be revealed how much of the economic contribution of the collected laurel remains in Kastamonu and in which other areas laurel products can create added value. Thanks to the road map to be obtained, laurel traders, entrepreneurs planning investment, academicians, public institutions, and forest villagers will directly benefit from this project.
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, in his evaluation of the project, stated that such projects not only strengthen academic knowledge but also strengthen ties with the society. He emphasized that the analysis of the laurel value chain will contribute to environmental sustainability and provide important support to the development of the local economy.
