Kastamonu University Faculty of Theology organized a "Concepts Exploited by FETÖ" panel on July 12, 2024, at the Faculty of Theology Conference Hall.
Prof. Dr Mehmet Atalan, Dean of the Faculty of Theology of our University, members of the Faculty of Theology, Prof. Dr Temel Yeşilyurt, and Prof. Dr Ali Albayrak participated in the panel as speakers. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Atalan, who chaired the panel, first gave the floor to Prof. Dr. Temel Yeşilyurt.
In his speech, Prof.Dr. Yeşilyurt stated that the structure and organization of FETÖ started in the 1970s. He noted that this structure, which was not well known then, tried to legitimize itself using the concept of "moderate Islam". He said that FETÖ consciously used the idea of "moderate Islam" by referring to the sects that were closed down by law with the Republic. Prof.Dr. Yeşilyurt said that the code names and pseudonyms commonly used within FETÖ emphasize the secrecy of the organization and emphasized that concepts such as justice, equity and merit are meaningless for FETÖ.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Atalan stated that FETÖ infiltrated society by identifying itself with religion and the prophet. Stating that Muslims should take the prophet as a model based on the Holy Quran, Atalan emphasized that FETÖ's mentality is one of marginalization. Pointing out that differences are accepted as richness in the Quran, Atalan said that FETÖ's recruitment of children as police officers and soldiers by giving them jobs was unfair. At the end of his speech, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Atalan underlined that FETÖ cannot be described as a religious organization.
Prof. Dr. Ali Albayrak, the last speaker of the panel, explained how FETÖ utilized the concept of dreams. Albayrak explained how FETÖ depersonalized people and turned them into robotic individuals. He stated that FETÖ abuses the idea of dreams, deceives people with unrealistic dreams, and directs them towards their own goals.
The panel ended after a group photo session.
