The project titled "Investigation of Adenosine Metabolism in Calves and its Role in Monocyte-Neutrophil Function Insufficiency in Calves" was carried out by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kenan Çağrı Tümer, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, was entitled to receive support within the scope of TÜBİTAK-1001 Scientific and Technological Research Projects Support Program.
Prof. Dr. Özgür Kaynar, Faculty Member Ömer Deniz and Dr. Fevziye Işıl Kesbiç are involved in the project as researchers. Prof. Dr Hans Joachim Schuberth from the Institute of Immunology at Hannover Veterinary University, who is one of the leading researchers in the field of calf immunology in the world, will investigate the factors underlying the inadequate natural immune response, which is one of the essential reasons for the susceptibility of calves to infections.
With the data to be obtained as a result of the project, it aims to understand the natural immune response in calves better and to reduce calf deaths, which cause significant economic losses in our country's animal husbandry, by creating an infrastructure for therapeutic/prophylactic research aiming to develop effective and rapid natural immune responses against pathogens.
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, stated that the academic achievements of our university will continue in the future and the quality of education of our university will be higher. In addition, our rector congratulated our academicians for their project work and expressed his gratitude to the President of the Council of Higher Education, Prof. Dr Erol Özvar and the Council of Higher Education members for their support for quality and qualified studies.
