The Presidency of Turkish Institutes of Health (TÜSEB) funded the research project "Determination of Postmortem Interval by Level Measurement of Various Biochemical Markers in Body Tissues," which was headed by Assist. Prof.Dr. Serbülent Kılıç and completed by Assist. Prof.Dr. Uğur Akpulat, Assoc. Prof.Dr. İrfan Çınar, and Assist. Prof.Dr.Nurtaç Sarıkaş.
The project, accepted within the 2024 TÜSEB Group A Emergency R&D Project Support Program, will be supported by 200 thousand TL for 12 months.
Within the scope of the accepted project, the postmortem interval (the time between the moment of death and the moment the body is found) will be determined, and a useful model will be obtained in addition to its scientific contribution to forensic sciences. It is aimed at obtaining fast results in about half a day for the determination of death in the dead examination performed in forensic cases.
In addition, this project aims to make an important contribution to forensic science studies since there is no method that can provide precise results for the determination of the time elapsed after death (PMI). It aims to make a social contribution to the justice system and social peace by determining the exact time of death in forensic cases.
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, emphasized that the contributions provided by TÜSEB contributed significantly to the project's success and hoped that this cooperation would continue in the future.
