The Modern Silk Road / Turkish Policies Towards Central Asia and Caucasus panel, organized by the Department of International Relations of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of our University with the participation of Ambassador Metin Kılıç as a speaker, was held on April 30, 2024, at the Central Library Cemil Meriç Hall.
Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Atalan, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Prof. Dr. Orhan Kandemir, academic and administrative staff, as well as many students, attended the conference.
The opening speech of the conference was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Evren Küçük, Head of the Department of International Relations. In his speech, he stated that steps have been taken to revive the Silk Road, which has had an important place throughout history.
Silk Road project is a project of east and West
After the opening speech, Ambassador Metin Kılıç briefly informed the students about the place and importance of the historical Silk Road.
Kılıç said that for several years now, many countries, particularly China, have initiated projects to modernize the historic Silk Road and underlined that the New Silk Road concept is a strategy developed to reconnect Asia and Europe in a new and stronger way.

In his speech, Kılıç also stated that the projects for the modernization of the Silk Road are important for developing economy and tourism in the countries through which the road passes and that historical and socio-cultural ties in these countries will develop.
Stating that the meetings, initiatives, agreements, initiated and planned projects for the revitalization of the Silk Road project show how seriously the Silk Road is taken and how important the countries take it, Kılıç underlined that the new Silk Road projects include an approach that consists of highways, railways, intercontinental transportation corridors, main cities and logistics bases and feeds the regions it passes through, thus helping the development of the countries in the region and contributing to their integration with the world.
The event ended with the presentation of a plaque to Ambassador Metin Kılıç and a souvenir photo session.
