Kastamonu University, which specializes in forestry and nature tourism, has added a new one to its projects.
Within the scope of TÜBİTAK 4004—Nature Education and Science Schools Support Program, the project titled "Future of Climate: Climate of the Future II", led by Lecturer Berkan Güngör, one of the academicians of our University, was entitled to receive support.
The Future of Climate, the first of which was supported by TÜBİTAK in 2022 and was entitled to receive support again: The Climate of the Future II project aims to increase the level of knowledge of young people continuing their formal education in associate, undergraduate, and graduate programs by addressing the issue of climate change in various dimensions through interactive applications. This project is aimed at helping participants gain awareness about protecting nature and living in harmony with nature, develop public policies together with expert trainers, and participate in and be active in local, national, and international environmental studies. The project will also focus on taking action against extreme climate events such as floods, droughts, and fires.
The project, which will be carried out in three stages between August 23–29, September 30-October 2, and October 14, includes 12 workshops, 40 hours of training, and 3 scientific trips. As a result of this project, 1 editorial book, 1 exhibition, 2 workshops, 2 panels, 1 symposium, and 1 sapling planting activity will be realized.
Vice Rector and Specialization Coordinator Prof. Dr. Ömer Küçük, Vice Rector and Technopolis, and TTO General Manager Prof. Dr. Kasım Yenigün, Ahmet Tabanlıoğlu, and Mehmet Fırat Olgun will take part as experts.
In the project, Konya Food and Agriculture University Rector Prof. Dr. Erol Turan, Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Tevfik Erdem, Kastamonu Governorship Provincial Disaster and Emergency Directorate Deputy Provincial Director Dr Suat Tüfekci, and university faculty members Prof. Dr. Tolga Ulusoy, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alperen Kaymakcı, Prof. Dr Burhan Sevim, Assoc. Prof. Dr Erol Tekin, Assoc. Prof. Dr Önder Tor, Assoc. Prof. Dr Miraç Aydın, Assoc. Prof. Dr Serap Yıldız İlden, Assist. Prof. Dr Özkan Evcin, Assist. Prof. Dr Mehmet Karamanoğlu, lecturer Feyza Kılınç Tayfun, and lecturer Zuhal Arife Küçük will take part as trainers.
Dr. Cihangir Küçük from Kastamonu Family Health Center will take part as health personnel, Kazım Yasin Özbey from our University and graduate students Esmanur Gedik, Özge Damla Başar, Sena Sarıca, Sümeyye Nur Sezgin, Zeynep Buse Güngör and Zeynep Yazıcı will take part as guides, and thus a total of 4 experts, 14 trainers, 7 guides and 1 health personnel from 2 universities, 4 public institutions and 1 private institution will be involved in the project.
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, emphasized the importance our University attaches to combating climate change and sustainability issues and stated that the project reflects these efforts.
Stating that the studies on sustainability will continue without slowing down, our Rector congratulated those who contributed to the project and expressed his gratitude to the President of the Council of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar and the members of the Council of Higher Education for their encouragement. He also thanked Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, President of TUBITAK, for supporting our institution in the project studies.
