On March 18, 2024, the Department of History of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences hosted a "Çanakkale Victory and Martyrs Commemoration Program" at the Central Library Sezai Karakoç Hall to commemorate the 109th anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory.

 

Vice-Rector  Prof.Dr. Mehmet Atalan, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof.Dr. M Serhat Yılmaz, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof.Dr.Ahmet Kaçar, academic and administrative staff, and many students attended the program.

 

On March 18, Gallipoli Victory and Martyrs Remembrance Day, the program started with silence and the National Anthem while Kıldıroğlu moderated the panel. In his speech, Assoc.Prof.Dr.  Mehmet Kıldıroğlu stated that the Anakkale Wars were divided into naval and land battles and that the Naval Wars resulted in the victory of the Turkish army.Assoc.Prof.Dr.  Kıldıroğlu noted that the success achieved in the naval battles was a turning point and that this success had a significant impact at home and abroad.

 

After Assoc.Prof.Dr. Kıldıroğlu's opening speech, Prof.Dr. Ercan Çelebi made a presentation titled "Martyrs from Kastamon in Çanakkale".

Çelebi stated that tens of thousands of soldiers were martyred in the Çanakkale Wars. When the records of these martyrs were examined, Kastamonu was among the provinces with the most martyrs.Çelebi said that Kastamonu has a special place in history and underlined that most of the soldiers who participated in the war from Kastamonu never returned.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tuba Dalar presented "Çanakkale Wars in Our Literature" at the commemoration program.  

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Dalar stated that many works on the Çanakkale Wars have been published from the past to the present and that these works not only include the conditions of war but also describe the human values of Turks. She underlined that these artifacts are essential in keeping the spirit of Çanakkale alive and creating historical awareness. 

The program ended with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the participants and a photo session.
