The surgical team led by Assistant Professor Burak Tamtekin from Kastamonu University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Kastamonu Training and Research Hospital operated on a patient with a ruptured aortic vessel with angiographic method and restored his health.
A 47-year-old patient named Murat Özlü, who applied to the emergency room with severe chest pain, was diagnosed with type 3 Aortic Dissection (internal rupture of the aortic vessel) in clinical examinations. A case of rupture of the aortic vessel with fatal consequences and a surgical operation with a risk of death, Assistant Professor Burak Tamtekin and his team successfully completed the operation.
While the rupture of the aortic vessel used to be a very long-lasting operation, the results of which were often unsatisfactory, in our University Training and Research Hospital equipped with the latest model devices, the 47-year-old patient was treated with the angiographic method (without surgery, without general anesthesia) by repairing the tear in the Aortic Vessel and providing normal blood flow with the TEVAR procedure, which lasted about 1 hour with a 3-4 cm incision in only one groin. The patient returned to normal daily activities as soon as 4 hours after surgery and was discharged on the second day.
The patient, who underwent surgery with a one-hour angiographic method, thus recovered from a very large operation that would take 8-12 hours, an incision that would extend from the armpit to the abdomen, and a long convalescence period.
Assistant Professor Burak Tamtekin and his team and wish them success in their work.
