The "Multidisciplinary Approach to Individuals with Special Needs" panel organized by the Department of Nursing of the Faculty of Health Sciences of our University with the theme "Let's Overcome Obstacles with Love" was held on December 7, 2023 at the Central Library Sezai Karakoç Hall.
On December 3, World Day of Persons with Disabilities, the "Multidisciplinary Approach to Individuals with Special Needs" panel organized by the Faculty of Health Sciences Nursing Department of Mental Health and Diseases Nursing course, accompanied by course supervisor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Havva Kaçan and Nurse Gülçin Gümüş Çalış, was attended by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Küçük, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Abdulkadir Tuna, various institutions and organizations, as well as many academic, administrative staff and students.
After a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Abdulkadir Tuna made the opening speech and pointed out that meeting the needs of individuals with special needs is a universal right. Prof. Dr. Tuna said, "It is undoubtedly important to create social awareness and sensitivity in determining the approach and behavior of special individuals who experience difficulties. Medical equipment should be provided and technologies should be utilized to meet the basic needs of these special individuals. At the same time, providing education, rehabilitation and psychological support to these individuals and their families will enable them to walk with self-confidence on the steps of life."
"Everyone can be disabled one day. Empathy is required for this"
Taking the floor after Prof. Dr. Tuna, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Küçük reminded that everyone can be disabled one day and that it is important to empathize for this and continued his words as follows "It is not at all difficult to understand how precious it is to speak here or to hear what is being said. Therefore, if we can approach individuals with special needs, individuals, our friends, our brothers and sisters with this understanding, with this feeling and thought, and if we can find support for them in their situation, if we can convey this awareness and awareness to all segments of society, we will have achieved a really important job. Of course, public institutions and NGOs have plant works and efforts in this regard. Universities have serious studies and efforts, but this is at the institutional level. It is not an activity or an issue that can be carried out alone, but each of us, every place, every person at every level of society clearly has very serious duties in this sense. Today's activity is very valuable, very valuable for creating this awareness. Therefore, we congratulate and appreciate everyone who contributed to the preparation of the program."
After Prof. Dr. Ömer Küçük, Erol Çelikel, Headmaster of Halime Çavuş Special Education Kindergarten, took the floor. Çelikel made a presentation titled "Physical and Psychosocial Developmental Characteristics of Children with Special Needs". In his speech, Çelikel stated that every child is actually an individual and that each individual shows a unique development process.
After Mr. Çelikel, İhsan Ozanoğlu Special Individuals Folklore Group took the floor and presented a dance performance to the guests. Akay Yücebıyık, Founding Director of Akay Special Education and Rehabilitation / Physiotherapist Akay Yücebıyık made a presentation titled "Services and Suggestions for Children / Individuals with Special Needs". Giving information about the developing special education institutions in our country, Yücebıyık explained the working system of special education institutions, which have an important place in the education of individuals with special needs.
After Yücebıyık's speech, İhsan Ozanoğlu Special Individuals Rhythm Group took the stage and performed a show that received full marks from the audience.
Taking the floor after the break, Kastamonu Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services / Social Work Specialist Eylem Aydın informed the participants about "Social Service Approach to Special Individuals and Cooperation". In her speech, Aydın informed the audience about the support provided by the state to individuals with special needs.
After Social Worker Aydın, Vural Yılmaz, School Director of Hüseyin Üster Special Education Application School, made a presentation on "Difficulties faced by Children with Special Needs". In his presentation, Yılmaz informed the participants about the effects of the practices on the development of individuals.
After Yılmaz's presentation, the audience showed great interest in the fashion show organized by Hüseyin Üster Special Education Practice School. After the fashion show, a barcovision show prepared by 4th grade students within the scope of Mental Health and Diseases Nursing practice was held.
In the second part of the program after the break given to the event, Mücahit Muslu, Lecturer at the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Faculty of Health Sciences of our University, made a presentation titled "Current Approach to Nutrition Treatments for Individuals with Special Needs". Muslu stated that with a good nutrition program, physical ailments of individuals with special needs will be alleviated.
After Assist. Muslu, Community Mental Health Center Specialist Occupational Therapist Şeyma Çiftçi gave information about the working principles of community and mental health centers in the presentation titled "Community Mental Health Center Activities". After Çiftçi, the Community Mental Health Center Clients Music Choir presented a music concert to the participants.
After the music concert, Kastamonu Training and Research Hospital Psychiatry Service Responsible Nurse Fatma Mum made a presentation titled "Psychiatric Nursing Patient Care Processes". Mum emphasized that patients need love and understanding and pointed out that love is a healing power.
Mehmet Emin Kıral took the floor after Nurse Mum and gave a presentation titled "What Have I Experienced? What am I going through? Where am I going?" and shared the answers to his questions with the audience. After Kıral, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing/Psychiatric Nursing faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Havva Kaçan made a presentation on "Mental Problems Experienced by Caregivers of Special Individuals and Psychiatric Nursing Approaches".
The program ended after the slide show prepared by the 4th year students within the scope of Mental Health and Diseases Nursing practice.
