Our university, which specializes in forestry and Nature Tourism, has added a new one to its projects prepared in this field.

Within the scope of TUBITAK 1001 Program, the project titled "Investigation of Atmospheric Pollen and Spores of Central, Inebolu and Tosya Districts Located in Different Climate Zones of Kastamonu Province" was accepted by TUBITAK and was entitled to receive 1.250.000 TL support for 3 years.

In the project, which was carried out by Talip Çeter, Dean of the Faculty of Science of our University and Faculty Member of the Department of Biology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış Bani, Faculty Member of the Faculty of Science of our University, Assistant Professor Kerim Güney, Faculty of Forestry, Faculty of Medicine faculty members, Assistant Professor Nazlı Erol and Assistant Professor Celal Demir are taking part as researchers. In addition, Serhat Karabıcak and Oktay Bıyıklıoğlu, PhD students from the Department of Biology, and a graduate student will serve as fellows.

With the supported project, it is aimed to examine the atmospheric pollen and spores of the Central, Inebolu and Tosya districts located in different climatic zones in Kastamonu province, to determine their changes according to meteorological factors and to determine their effects on the quality of life of allergy patients.

With this study, the atmospheric pollen and spores of İnebolu and Tosya districts will be determined for the first time. In addition, this study will be the first study in our country to use an automatic pollen counting device.

With this study, which will support sensitive individuals to avoid allergic symptoms by creating pollen and spore calendars that will be prepared to show the intensities of pollen and spores with allergic effects in the atmosphere of Kastamonu, the pollination periods of important species in Kastamonu forests will also contribute to the studies of our University within the scope of specialization in Forestry and Nature Tourism. In addition, by determining the spore densities and annual calendars of plant pathogenic fungi in the atmosphere, an important source data will be created for the relevant organizations both in the fight against forest pest fungi and agricultural control.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal congratulated our academicians and students who took part in this project and study related to our specialization area and expressed his gratitude to the President of the Council of Higher Education Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar and the members of the Council of Higher Education for their support. In addition, our Rector thanked Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, President of TÜBİTAK, for his encouraging approach to our institution in project studies.
