The fifth of the “Life Skills and Survival Camp in Nature” event, which is planned to be organized by Kastamonu University Continuing Education Research and Application Center (KASÜSEM) in a different district every month, was successfully held in Taşköprü district between 4-6 April 2025. In the three-day event intertwined with nature, 50 students from faculties and vocational schools affiliated with our University actively participated.

During the event, which was held in the camping area established in Sümer Sosyal Tesisleri, participants received theoretical and practical training on navigation, shelter building, fire lighting, first aid, and survival strategies in the natural environment. Expert academician in the field, Lecturer Hikmet Haberal, who is an expert in the field, aimed to provide students with the ability to live in harmony with nature as well as make academic contributions.

Within the scope of the event, training on camping rules, trekking techniques, flora and fauna of the region, biodiversity, and environmental awareness was given. In the program where nature and culture interaction was at the forefront, historical and cultural sites such as Taşköprü City Museum, Pompeipolis Ancient City, Abdal Hasan Village Tomb and Bath, Donalar Rock Tombs, Karadere Dam, Simens Power Plant Building, historical Taşköprü, and the hessian irrigation pools in Sümer Sosyal Tesisleri were visited and examined.

During the camp, tent pitching, campsite management, and life in nature skills were transferred to the students in practice. Participants not only developed their skills to cope with nature but also had the opportunity to get to know the local culture and observe the importance of natural resources on site.

Students who successfully completed the camp both reinforced their theoretical knowledge and had an unforgettable experience. Our University Lecturer Hikmet Haberal emphasized that such activities are essential regarding environmental awareness, love of nature, and survival skills.
