'Historical Independence Road Walk,' organized by Kastamonu University Faculty of Tourism under the leadership of Lecturer Hikmet Haberal, was held with intense participation. Research Assistant Dr İlker Şahin and Tourism Management PhD Student Ersin Uğur Aydın also participated in the event.
Over 150 students came together in the event held in the Historical Independence Road National Park, where weapons and ammunition arriving at the Port of Inebolu during the War of Independence were shipped to Anatolia. Within the scope of the event, students were told about the region's history and its importance in the national struggle.
Before the walk, the students visited the Inebolu district. The group was welcomed by Inebolu Deputy Mayor Necmi Mankaloğlu and history researcher Mustafa Sıtkı Fakazlı and visited the historical, touristic, and cultural places of the district. The street where Ömer Seyfettin, one of the essential names of Turkish literature, and the house where Oğuz Atay was born were also visited.
The walk, which started in front of the Inebolu Turkish Quarry building and lasted 5 kilometers, brought the students together on the trail of the historical Independence Road. The students then moved to the Küre district and walked in the villages of 'Ersizler' and 'Ersizlerdere,' where all the men were martyred during the War of Independence. On this track, which lasted approximately 9 kilometers, the memories of the martyrs and the stories of the names of the villages were conveyed to the students.
The walk continued towards Ersizlerdere Canyon and ended with visiting the Historical Two Tea Bridge and the Martyr Şerife Bacı Monument in Ecevit Inn. The activity was completed in Kastamonu Kışla Park.
In Inebolu, titled 'The Only District with Medal' during the National Struggle period, the 'Independence Road Medal' was presented to Lecturer Hikmet Haberal by the Municipality Presidency.
