The conference on 'Constitutional Monarchy Period Press and the Turkish World' organized by Kastamonu University Directorate of Turkish World Application and Research Center was held on 25 October 2024 at Cemil Meriç Hall of the Central Library of our University with the presentation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevda Özkaya Sofu.
The conference was attended by academic staff and students from the Departments of History, Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures, and Information and Document Management of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The news about the Turkish World in the Press was evaluated at the conference after giving information about the Constitutional Monarchy Period Press.
Prof. Dr. Ercan Çelebi, Director of the Turkish World Application and Research Centre, made the opening speech and gave information about the purpose of establishing the center and its activities. Çelebi invited students to participate in the center's activities and emphasized the importance of academic and cultural activities related to the Turkic World.
In her speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevda Özkaya Sofu stated that with the declaration of the Constitutional Monarchy II, an environment of freedom was created, and there was a significant increase in the number of newspapers and magazines in this period. Sofu stated that intellectual movements such as Islamism and Turkism influenced and shaped the Press of the period. He also explained the view of the Constitutional Monarchy press on the Turkish World and how the problems of the period were covered in the Press with concrete examples.
The conference ended after the presentation of a certificate of appreciation.
