According to the “Innovation Map of Universities” report published by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, Kastamonu University was among the universities that attracted attention with its progress in industrial property. The report emphasized that Kastamonu is one of the prominent provinces, and its performance in patent and utility model applications originates from our university.
Our University ranks first in Turkey in the ranking of “provinces with the highest number of university applications per 100 applications”
According to the data, more than 45% of the total patent and utility model applications made in Kastamonu between 2010 and 2024 originated directly from our University. At this rate, Kastamonu ranked first in Turkey in the ranking of “provinces with the highest number of university applications per 100 applications.” This success reveals that the industrial property ecosystem effectively reflects the region's academic potential.
The report also states that the number of provinces that exceeded the 100 application threshold is 16, and only 2 of these provinces do not have metropolitan status. Kastamonu was among these two provinces and was particularly emphasized. The province's leadership in this field shows that the university-industry cooperation culture is developing and that it sets an example in transforming the higher education potential of the region into industrial property production.
Our University Ranks 26th Among Leading Universities According to the Number of Applications
In the list of the top 30 universities with the highest number of patent and utility model applications between 2010 and 2024, our University ranked 26th with 119 applications. As the only university from the Western Black Sea Region to make the list, our University has once again demonstrated its importance to innovation and R&D.
Kastamonu University is at the Forefront in Special Machines Technology
In the report, which also evaluates the technical fields that universities focus on in their applications, our University came to the forefront, especially with its applications in the “Special Machines” field. Istanbul Medipol University “Digital Communication”, Yıldız Technical University “Materials-Metallurgy”, Bursa Uludağ University “Textile and Paper Machinery,” METU and Izmir Institute of Technology ‘Measurement’, Ondokuz Mayıs, Gaziantep, and Özyeğin Universities “Electrical Machinery and Energy,” and Hasan Kalyoncu University “Consumer Goods” were among the other prominent universities.
In addition to “Special Machines”, our university continues to make concrete contributions to the technological development in Turkey with its R&D studies in food chemistry and materials-metallurgy.
