Kastamonu University organized the “2025 Academic Robe Wearing and Achievement, Encouragement, and Award Ceremony” for faculty members appointed in 2024, whose academic titles were promoted. At the ceremony held at the Central Library Sezai Karakoç Conference Hall, awards were presented in various categories to academicians and students who stood out with their academic achievements in 2024.
The ceremony was attended by our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, Vice Rectors, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Atalan, Prof. Dr. Ömer Küçük, and Prof. Dr. Selahattin Kaymakcı, as well as our deans, institute and college directors, and many academicians.
The program started with a music concert performed by the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design students. Then a trailer was watched.

Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, who made the opening speech of the program, congratulated all faculty members who showed academic rise and contributed to the world of science. Stating that such ceremonies offer the opportunity to witness the development of the Kastamonu University family together, our Rector emphasized that rewarding academic achievements is an essential part of the university's culture with the understanding that “good deeds are subject to compliments”. He pointed out that successes are strengthened by encouragement with the statement, “Successes that are appreciated and supported grow, spread, and open the door to new success stories”.
Stating that our university has gained significant momentum in scientific productivity in recent years, our Rector noted that according to Scopus data, the number of articles addressed to Kastamonu University, which was 273 in 2019, reached 556 as of 2024, and the rate of publications in the Q1 and Q2 categories increased to 74%. According to Web of Science data, the number of citations of the university's publications has increased by more than 260% in five years.
Stating that only 45 projects supported by TÜBİTAK were approved in 2024, our Rector noted that more than 80 nationally and internationally endorsed projects were successfully carried out.
An exemplary university with projects contributing to society
Our Rector stated that our University has an exemplary position in academic productivity and social contribution and noted that 139 social responsibility projects were carried out in cooperation with 53 different institutions in 2024. He also said that in the UNIDES program carried out by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, 35 projects of the student communities of our University were supported and ranked third in Turkey.
Reminding that 265 projects were entitled to receive support within the scope of TÜBİTAK 2209-A student projects, our Rector stated that the project-based working culture has strengthened behind this success.
Referring to the progress in the field of patents, our Rector emphasized that 43 new applications were made in 2024 and that a sustainable production culture has been formed within our University.
Remarkable rise in international rankings
Stating that the academic achievements of our university are recognized not only at the national level but also on international platforms, our Rector said that our university has recorded a significant rise in rankings such as THE (Times Higher Education), QS and URAP. He also stated that successful results have been achieved in thematic rankings such as THE Impact Rankings.
At the end of his speech, our Rector shared his vision for the future with Mevlana's lines “Now we need to say new things...” and stated that the 20th anniversary of our University will be celebrated with scientific, cultural, artistic and sports activities. Emphasizing the importance of quality, performance, and strategic planning for the sustainability of academic achievements, he thanked all academic and administrative staff.
The ceremony was held in two parts
In the first part of the ceremony, a total of 138 academics who were appointed as professors, associate professors, and doctoral faculty members were presented with their robes. In this context, the academic promotions of 19 professors, 48 associate professors, and 71 doctoral faculty members were celebrated.
In the second part; 82 academicians, five departments and three students in our three faculties, who stood out in 2024 in line with criteria such as academic incentive scores, SCI indexed publications, TÜBİTAK and TÜSEB supported projects, patent and utility model studies, degrees obtained in TEKNOFEST and similar competitions and international collaborations, were awarded.
