The Western Black Sea Universities Association Consultation Meeting was hosted by Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) with the participation of Presidential Advisor Saadet Oruç at the Rectorate Senate Hall.
The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer, Rector of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, Rector of Bartın University, Prof. Dr. Orhan Uzun, Rector of Karabük University, Prof. Dr. Fatih Kırışık, Rector of Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alişarlı, Rector of Çankırı Karatekin University, Prof. Dr. Harun Çiftçi, Rector of Sinop University Prof. Dr. Şakir Taşdemir, Rector of Gebze Technical University Prof. Dr. Hacı Ali Mantar, Rector of Kocaeli University Prof. Dr. Nuh Zafer Cantürk, Rector of Kocaeli Health and Technology University Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Elmas, Rector of Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University Prof. Dr. Zafer Asım Kaplancıklı and Rector of Yalova University Prof. Dr. Mehmet Bahçekapılı.
At the opening of the meeting, Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer, Rector of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, presented flowers to the Chief Advisor to the President Saadet Oruç, who is also a journalist, on the occasion of January 10 Working Journalists Day. Chief Advisor to President Saadet Oruç stated that universities play an essential role, especially in combating violence against women and children. She believed that cooperation protocols in this field would provide valuable outputs.
Speaking after the Chief Advisor to the President Saadet Oruç, Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer, Rector of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, stated that they are very proud and happy to host the Western Black Sea Universities Union Consultative Meeting and wished that the period meeting will be beneficial for the development and development of the Western Black Sea region in education and for the member universities of the Western Black Sea Universities Union. In the continuation of the meeting, Western Black Sea Universities Association Term President and Bartın University Rector Prof. Dr. Orhan Uzun stated that they plan to spread the workshop held at BEUN on November 23, 2024, to the union of universities with wider cooperation. Prof. Dr. Uzun emphasized that the collaboration between universities should be strengthened. After the opening speeches, the Western Black Sea Universities Union Consultative Meeting continued to discuss the agenda items.
At the meeting, it was decided to hold a congress on the relevant subject after the ‘Workshop on Combating Violence against Women and Children’ held at BEUN on November 23, 2024. To increase social awareness about violence against women and children, a cooperation protocol was signed between the universities that are members of the Western Black Sea Universities Association for the joint organization of workshops and other academic activities. In addition, it was decided that Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University will host the first congress.
Protocols were also signed on issues such as the joint use of libraries and documents between member universities and cooperation in artificial intelligence. In the meeting, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, was unanimously elected as president after Bartın University Rector, Prof. Dr. Orhan Uzun, who completed his term presidency. Our Rector, who took over the term presidency, stated that the work to increase the cooperation between universities will continue.
