Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, hosted Kastamonu Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Yücel Tanrıkulu and the accompanying delegation in his office on August 2, 2024.
Our Vice-Rector, Prof. Dr Ömer Küçük, Branch Manager Sami Karaçaylı and Agricultural Engineer Dr Fatih Gürel from Kastamonu Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry were also present at the meeting.
During the visit, a cooperation protocol was signed between our University and Kastamonu Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry within the scope of the "Project on Determining the Soil Properties of Pasture Areas in Kastamonu and Revealing the Pasture Status" carried out by Kastamonu Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry Meadow Pasture and Forage Crops Branch Directorate.
Within the framework of this cooperation, the Faculty of Forestry of our University will carry out studies in large pasture areas where animal husbandry is intensive in the determined districts. Soil samples to be taken from 240,000 decares of land will be determined and coordinated on the map, and soil samples will be taken from the land. A total of 350 soil profiles will be opened, the hydro-physical and chemical properties of the soils will be determined, and the yield potential of the pasture areas will be revealed. In line with the data obtained, plans will be made to contribute positively to animal husbandry in the region.
In addition, Kastamonu Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry will carry out laboratory analysis of 350 soil samples at Kastamonu University Central Research Laboratory. Our university will provide training at the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry by ensuring that undergraduate and graduate students participate in these studies.
Our Rector, Prof. Dr Ahmet Hamdi Topal, expressed his pleasure to cooperate with the Kastamonu Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and stated that with this cooperation, they aim to contribute to the regional economy by increasing the quality of animal husbandry and agriculture in Kastamonu and that they will provide all necessary support. He also stated that students will reinforce their education by gaining practical experience in the field and contributing to scientific research.
Kastamonu Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Yücel Tanrıkulu stated that with this protocol, they think that both university students will have the opportunity to practice in the field and the productivity of pasture areas in the region will increase and contribute to animal husbandry. He also stated that this cooperation with Kastamonu University will give a new impetus to agriculture and animal husbandry activities in the region.
