The opening ceremony of our university's Culture, Art and Sports Activities started with the ‘Graduation Exhibition of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Uysal Painting Workshop Students’ held at Kastamonu University Fine Arts Gallery on May 29, 2024.
Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr Mehmet Atalan, Prof. Dr Ömer Küçük, Kastamonu Provincial Culture and Tourism Director Kerem Seven, Secretary General Şevket Bahçacıoğlu, academic and administrative staff and students attended the opening of the exhibition.
Speaking at the opening, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Uysal stated that he was proud to exhibit the work prepared by his students, who had had great devotion and labour for four years. Uysal said, ‘This exhibition is a showcase where our students reveal their talents and passion for art. You can see our students' original perspectives and artistic competencies in each work. Our graduation exhibition is an important step for their future art careers.’
The exhibition included 115 works produced by seven students in various disciplines such as painting, photography, sculpture, video art, land art, performance art, conceptual art and installation. The exhibition attracted significant attention from art lovers, and the participants appreciated the talents and creativity of the students and wished them success.
After the exhibition on the first day of the Culture, Arts, and Sports Activities, the activities continued with the 100th Anniversary Republican Sports Games cup and medal award ceremony held at Ay Yıldız Sports and Life Centre.
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, Vice Rectors, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Atalan, Prof. Dr. Ömer Küçük, and Secretary General Şevket Bahçacıoğlu, academic and administrative staff, and students attended the ceremony.
950 athletes competed in 7 branches and nine categories, including basketball, volleyball, football, table tennis, chess, darts, and bowling, in the ‘100th Anniversary Republican Sports Games’, which started on December 11, 2023, and ended on May 27, 2024. In addition, 77 teams competed fiercely, including 17 football teams, 14 male and 13 female volleyball teams, 11 male and two female basketball teams, 12 bowling teams, and eight chess teams.
Before the ceremony, the show performed by the Kastamonu University Raksan Folk Dance Ensemble was highly appreciated by the audience. The performance, which blended traditional Turkish folk dances with modern interpretations, gave the audience unforgettable moments.
Speaking at the opening of the ceremony, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, emphasised that Kastamonu University believes in the importance of sports in the development of young people and supports such organisations. Stating that 950 athletes competed in 7 branches and nine categories and that the determination and fair play spirit shown were proud, our Rector thanked those who contributed to the organization, congratulated the athletes, and wished to achieve many successes together in the future.
At the ceremony, the teams and athletes who were successful in the competitions organised by the Turkish University Sports Federation in 2023-2024 and the athletes and teams who ranked in the competitions held in various branches such as football, basketball, volleyball, bowling, chess, darts, and table tennis in the sports events held specifically for the 100th anniversary of the Republic were presented with their cups and medals.
The three-day Culture, Arts, and Sports Events will continue with the Culture Day events to be held on May 30, 2024, the Faculty of Sports Sciences events, sports competitions, Raksan Folk Dance Ensemble & Sports Sciences Folk Dance Ensemble performances, Can Kavalcı and Orchestra concerts, and Dj Arkun and Dj Metz concerts.
The programme will be held on May 31, 2024, the last day of the event, and the activities will start with promoting our university community stands. While the event will continue with the Faculty of Sports Sciences sports competitions, students will showcase their talents in the karaoke event. In the evening, Doğan Dalmızrak and his orchestra will meet with students. The events will end with a film screening.
