Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Prof. Dr. Ahmet Gümen met with Kastamonu University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine students on March 21, 2024.
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Gümen, who visited our university within the scope of his visit to Kastamonu, came to see our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, in his office before the interview.
During the visit, our Rector expressed joy in welcoming Deputy Minister Gümen to our university and provided information about the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine's studies, research, and animal health, nutrition, and breeding initiatives. He stated that the work and projects have significantly contributed to the regional economy and the development of animal husbandry across the country.
Deputy Minister Prof. Dr. Ahmet Gümen emphasised the importance of animal husbandry and stated that he appreciated the significance of the relevant studies carried out at our university. He also stressed the importance of the young generation's contributions to the sustainability and efficiency of the livestock sector, stating that our university's efforts in this area should be expanded in future initiatives.
After the visit, Deputy Minister Prof. Dr. Ahmet Gümen came together with our students in an interview and informed them about the current developments in veterinary medicine, animal husbandry, and agriculture in Turkey and the state investments and support.

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Gümen, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, introduced himself by saying he was a faculty member of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Bursa Uludağ University before his deputy ministry. Prof. Dr. Gümen gave information about the animal and agricultural capacities and qualities of our country and informed the students about the investments and project incentives provided by the state in these fields.
Prof. Dr. Gümen said that agriculture and animal husbandry are progressing with the support provided by the state and expressed that they want to support the breeders in both animal husbandry and agriculture sectors with scientific studies. Prof. Dr. Gümen also underlined that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry supports scientific, technical, and actual studies in animal husbandry and agricultural enterprises in Turkey, an agrarian country.
After his speech, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Gümen answered the students' questions and emphasised the importance of the opportunities for veterinary students to gain experience.
He told the students that an internship is a precious opportunity to put their theoretical knowledge into practice and learn about the natural functioning of the sector.
In addition, Deputy Minister Gümen informed them that there are internship opportunities in the relevant organisations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and that they can also do internships in various enterprises in the private sector. He also stated that by participating in multiple projects supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, they can contribute to scientific studies and follow current developments in the sector.
