On March 7, 2024, our university organized the "2023 Academic Robe Wearing and Academic Achievement, Incentive, and Award Ceremony" for our academicians who were appointed and promoted in 2023 and our academicians who were entitled to receive awards for successful studies in their academic lives.
In addition to our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, and Vice-Rectors, Prof. Dr. Kasım Yenigün, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Atalan, and Prof. Dr. Ömer Küçük, many academics attended the ceremony.
The ceremony began with an introductory video of our university. It continued with a musical concert by students from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design.
Kastamonu University is 18 years old
Our Rector, who gave the opening speech at the ceremony held at the Sezai Karakoç Hall of the Central Library of our University, stated that the academic and physical structuring of our university, which is celebrating its 18th anniversary and is working to contribute to the social, cultural, economic, scientific, and technological development of the region and the country with its human-centered education and training activities, has been completed to a great extent.
Our Rector expressed his gratitude to our President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who has made significant contributions and supported the establishment and development of our university; to ministers and deputies; to past and present governors and mayors; to philanthropists; to administrators of public institutions, organizations, and NGOs; to academic and administrative staff; to students; and to the people of Kastamonu, who have the primary say in the success of our university and who work with dedication.
Continuing his speech, the Rector said that Kastamonu University had achieved a number of national and international academic achievements in the 2019–2024 academic year, emphasizing that academic research aims to contribute to both the academic community and the development of the region. Stating that the number of articles, which is one of the most important outputs of academic studies, has increased from 267 to 536 in the last five years and that the number of Q1/Q2 publications, which was 63 in the same period, increased to 201 in 2023, our Rector expressed that he is proud of the academics who have achieved this significant increase in both quality and quantity.
Our Accreditation Process Continues
Stating that Kastamonu University is one of the universities that received the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) Quality Management Certificate, our Rector stated that 5 new programs were accredited in 2023 at our university, which has determined to make quality culture one of its primary goals. In addition, our Rector stated that the number of accredited programs would soon increase by 8 with the three programs whose accreditation process has been completed and whose results are expected, and emphasized that they are aiming for institutional accreditation from YÖKAK as soon as possible, which aims to structure and disseminate the quality assurance system and continuous improvement of the system.
International Success Continues
Our rector said that our university was ranked 32nd among Turkish universities in the research quality category in the THE 2024 World Ranking. He also stated that our university has once again been certified by international organizations for its qualified and successful studies and that Kastamonu University was ranked 287th among 1183 universities in the GreenMetric World Ranking and 25th in Turkey. Our rector stated that the healthy management of intensive work, cooperation, common sense, strategic planning, monitoring, and evaluation processes are essential for national and international achievements. He stressed that the qualified studies carried out by academics play a crucial role in achieving the goals of our university in the regional, national, and international arenas.
Our Rector concluded his remarks by congratulating the faculty members who have been promoted to Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor for their hard work, sweat, and successful studies in their fields of study.
Eighty-two faculty members wore gowns at the ceremony, including 21 professors, 32 associate professors, and 29 assistant professors who have achieved academic promotion.
85 Academicians were awarded for their academic achievements
In the second part of the ceremony, the awards were presented to our academics who have achieved success in their studies in 2023 and to our academic staff who have achieved significant success.
At the ceremony, 85 academics received awards in various categories, such as the World's Most Influential Scientist, the Most Q1 Publications, the Most National/International Publications Award, the Accredited Department Award, the Unit Award with the Most Student Projects within the Most TÜBİTAK University Student Research Projects, National/International Project Awards, Patent/Utility Model Awards, Academic Incentive Awards, TÜSEB Awards, TÜBİTAK Project Awards, TEKNOFEST Awards, National Competitions, and Internationalization Studies.
