The opening ceremony of the 100th Anniversary Republic Sports Games organized by our university was held on 11 December 2023 at Ay Yıldız Sports and Life Center.
In addition to our Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, our academic and administrative staff and many students attended the opening ceremony of the event. The opening ceremony of the 100th Anniversary Republican Sports Games at Ay Yıldız Sports and Life Center started with the parade of football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, chess, bowling, darts and bocce teams.
After the teams took their places, the event continued with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem. Our Rector started his opening speech by expressing his pleasure to come together for the opening of the 100th Year Republican Sports Games, which was organized in reference to the 100th anniversary of the Republic. In his speech, our Rector pointed out that the 100th Anniversary Republican Sports Games, in which 14 faculties and 13 vocational schools will compete in 8 different branches and will last until May 31, 2024, is one of the longest-lasting sports competitions.
Stating that our university offers physical opportunities to students in many sports branches, our Rector stated that all our students should benefit from these opportunities. Our Rector also emphasized that students should insist on both sports and cultural activities and convey their demands to the university administration. Stating that Kastamonu University supports sports and athletes in every field, our Rector concluded his speech by wishing success to all athletes participating in the 100th Year Republican Sports Games.
After the speech of our Rector, the opening ceremony continued with folk dances and gymnastics show. The opening match of the sports games started with the match between the basketball teams of Araç Vocational School and Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. Football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, chess, bowling, darts and bocce teams will compete in the 100th Anniversary Republican Sports Games, which will continue until May 31, 2024.
