Another remarkable success of the surgical team led by Kastamonu University Cardiovascular Surgery Specialist Assistant Professor Burak Tamtekin, who works at Kastamonu Training and Research Hospital, was realized.
One of their young patients, 24-year-old Salim, unexpectedly suffered right-sided paralysis while continuing his normal life. The devoted work of Dr. Tamtekin and his team helped Salim regain his health as a ray of hope in this difficult struggle.
Salim's paralysis was caused by inflammation of the inner lining of the heart called endocarditis. Damage to the mitral valve of the heart and the clots that formed traveled through the young man's body and settled in various parts. In particular, the clots that reached the brain caused a stroke. Salim's condition caused serious concern due to the risk of stroke and the unfavorable course of other important symptoms.
Dr. Burak Tamtekin and his team brought the young patient back to life with a heart surgery performed with meticulous planning and elite measures to address Salim's condition. The successful replacement of the mitral valve and the removal of clots in the body allowed Salim to regain his health. Over the course of 20 days, Salim gradually regained the use of his right arm and leg.
