Kastamonu University was among the best in the “Competence Analysis of Universities by Field” report announced by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey.
The 2023 report of the “Field-Based Competency Analysis of Universities”, in which the performances of universities on the basis of research fields are evaluated comparatively, has been announced by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK)
Indicators that make up the volume dimension, based on 40 percent of the evaluation made by TÜBİTAK; The contribution to the knowledge in the world, the share of the critical mass that creates academic value in that field in Turkey in the relevant university, the volume of R&D and innovation projects, and the relative focus of the university on Turkey in the relevant field were determined as the index. The relative citation effect of the university's publications on the world; the number of publications of the university that entered the top 10% of the world's most cited publications; research efficiency of academics, the quality of R&D and innovation projects; The number of publications cited by patents and their contribution to the internationalization of our country/university through international collaborations were determined as quality indicators that make up 60 percent of the evaluation.
Analyzes are carried out on 21 main research areas and 132 sub-research areas, which are determined by taking into account the critical technology areas that are important for our country and the education areas of 177 universities. Competency charts on the axis of volume and quality are prepared for universities that have sufficient data within the framework of the determined criteria. Field-based competency charts were prepared by TUBITAK for 177 of 200 universities with these characteristics.
In this context, our University, which was in 8 of the 21 main research areas in 2021, showed a 50% increase and succeeded in taking part in 12 of the 21 main research areas in 2023. While taking place in 52 of 131 sub-research areas in 2021; In 2023, it took place in 61 of 132 sub-research areas.
In the report published in 2023, our university was placed in the 1st region category in 19 research areas according to the university competency map made by considering quality and volume indicators and showed that it is competent in these areas.
In the competency analysis report prepared based on the volume and quality indicators of our university; Construction, Traditional Manufacturing Technologies, Aerospace-Satellite and Launch Technologies, Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy, Urbanization, Aerospace-Aircraft Design, Refinement Technologies, Fluid Power, Dynamics and Fluid Machinery, Surface, Coating and Films, Transportation and Logistics , Ophthalmology, Geography, Religious Sciences, Meteorology, Soil and Plant Nutrition, Food Processing areas above Turkey's average, while also high-level success in the fields of Animal Nutrition-Animal Breeding-Breeding Diseases, Aquaculture and Forestry, has registered its competence throughout Turkey. Specializing in the field of "Forestry and Nature Tourism" in the report prepared by TÜBİTAK, our University was among the best universities in terms of volume and quality in its fields.
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal stated that the TÜBİTAK competency analysis study is of great importance for the university and stated that this evaluation process is an important indicator in terms of seeing the scientific research and innovation potential of our university and increasing our competitiveness at the national level.
Stating that as a result of the TÜBİTAK competency analysis study, the strengths of our University, areas that can provide competitive advantage in the national and international arena and the issues that need to be developed will be determined, our Rector stated that these results are extremely valuable in terms of guiding the strategic planning of the university and the creation of research policies.
